Internal Audit

Outsourcing of the Internal Audit Function

We are mainly ex-internal auditors. We specialize in outsourcing the internal audit function to corporations that have no internal audit department of their own. We cosource internal auditing with companies whose local internal audit resources are limited.

Internal Control Reviews

We do internal control reviews for entire companies or in specific areas. The internal controls we recommend will not stifle creativity and enterprise. We are very much aware that fraud cannot exist without trust but we are equally aware that neither can business. The key to a successful internal control program is to strike the right balance between oversight and trust.

Fraud Examination and Prevention

Recovery of damages is the principal objective of a fraud victim. Ensuring it will never happen again is another. In order to prevent a reoccurrence clients must know what happened. Is it fraud or is it something else? Who is responsible? How & where did it happen? How often did it occur? What is the quantification of the damage? Was there a breakdown in internal controls? Was there an override of internal controls?

Sullivan Miranda provides fraud prevention training seminars and work-shops. We specialize in hands-on, fraud detection courses aimed at introducing fraud awareness to key executives, internal auditors, external auditors and credit analysts.

Confidential Reporting Mechanisms

Studies conducted by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) consistently report the optimum means of discovering fraud is through a confidential reporting mechanism. The 2006 ACFE Wells Report found that 40% of frauds studied were discovered through tips. The same report found that confidential reporting mechanisms reduce fraud losses significantly. We have available two such mechanisms. We provide a confidential telephone number which we call a fraud hotline if the client wishes to limit the scope of reporting to fraud. We call it an ethics hotline if the client wishes to extend the scope to unethical behavior in general, including sexual harassment. We also provide a confidential e-mail address. Interviewers answer confidential employee calls and review e-mails on a live 24 hour, 365 day per year basis.
